Shards Are Coming Back
EA Sports FC Mobile has revealed one of the biggest pre-event announcements ahead of the upcoming Team of the Season (TOTS) campaign.
Through its official social channels, EA confirmed that the popular Shard system is making a return to FC Mobile next week with the launch of TOTS.
This time, however, the system arrives with a fresh identity and updated structure. Instead of regular shards, players will now use a new currency called Star Shards.
For many in the community, this is one of the most exciting reveals so far, especially with TOTS being one of the biggest annual events in FC Mobile.
TOTS Hype Continues to Build
The TOTS event has always been one of the most anticipated promos in FC Mobile. It celebrates the best-performing footballers from top leagues around the world who delivered consistent performances throughout the season.
Every year, TOTS introduces elite cards, high OVR players, and some of the most desirable items in the game. With the event expected to launch next week, community excitement was already high - and the return of shards has only increased that anticipation.
Star Shards Replacing the Old Format

EA confirmed that the returning shard system will now be connected to a feature called Star Signings.
The official announcement highlighted three key mechanics
Release players and earn Star Shards
Use Star Shards to sign new players of your choice
Phase II Tokens will be phased out, with an exchange option available
This strongly suggests that players will be able to recycle unwanted cards into Star Shards, then use that currency to target rewards or specific players they actually want.
That would be a major shift compared to recent systems that relied more heavily on tokens and random outcomes.
Phase II Tokens Set to End
Another major takeaway from the announcement is that Phase II Tokens will no longer continue into TOTS.
Instead, EA confirmed an exchange option for leftover tokens. While full details have not yet been shared, this likely means players will get a chance to convert remaining tokens into another usable currency.
This is an important update for users who have been saving tokens from recent events.
Positive Community Reaction
The Phase II Token system received mixed feedback from many players, with some enjoying the exchange flexibility while others preferred older reward models that offered more direct control.
Because of that, the return of a shard-based system has been welcomed by a large section of the community. Being able to release players and work toward cards of your choice gives users a clearer sense of progression.
If implemented well, Star Shards could become one of the strongest reward systems introduced this season.
More TOTS Reveals Expected Soon
With TOTS launching next week, EA is likely to continue revealing more information through social media over the coming days.
In addition, the official TOTS livestream is already scheduled, where players are expected to receive a full breakdown of the event format, rewards, cards, and new systems such as Star Signings.
For now, one thing is clear - shards are back, and TOTS is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about events of the year.
